CDs of the Week – 2026
For Calendar Week 17: Naria – Lyra-La (self-released)
“New name, new band, incredibly exciting sound: the quartet from Karlsruhe led by composer, guitarist, and singer Marc Eisele blends modern rock elements with progressive structures, remaining highly diverse throughout and never shying away from, for example, very quiet moments.
You never quite know what will happen next — whether in the next moment or even within the next minute — yet the songs never fall apart into disconnected breaks and chaos. Instead, they always remain coherent and comprehensible. Interesting hook lines, exciting transitions, strong songwriting ideas — what more could you want?
Dredg and especially The Intersphere are the bands that come to mind most readily here — and that is absolutely meant as a compliment. After all, the Mannheim-based band in particular, especially with their early albums, were considered at the forefront of perfectly combining complex rock with catchy alternative rock.
Anyone who appreciates that kind of sound should definitely take the time to listen carefully to Naria — preferably two or three times, because there is always something new to discover.”
